Ahwatukee, an Indian word meaning "house of
my dreams" or "magic place of my dreams,"
is located just 15 minutes south of downtown Phoenix.
The community hugs the southeastern border of the
16,500 acre South Mountain Park, thus providing a
multitude of scenic vistas to enjoy. It is one of
the fastest growing urban villages in Phoenix, with
a population of close to 90,000 within its 35.8 square
mile borders. The majority of its residents are affluent,
college educated and between the ages of 25-48, with
an average income of $67,000 annually.

Ahwatukee is highly regarded for its public school
districts, preschools and private schools. All 24
schools in the Kyrene Elementary District are viewed
as the premier schools in the East Valley for academic
achievement. The area has been growing so rapidly
that every year a new school has been opened to accommodate
the influx of students!
South Mountain Park, the largest city owned park
in the nation, offers miles of trails for hiking and
horseback riding, in addition to beautiful open spaces
in which to enjoy picnicking and just relaxing with
family and friends.
Housing in Ahwatukee is varied. Master planned communities
abound, supplying amenities including parks, golf
courses, community centers and landscaped walking
paths. Predominant housing prices range from $110,000

planned communities here are Mountain Park Ranch and
The Foothills.
Mountain Park Ranch, just south
of Ahwatukee, is a 2,650 acre master planned community
that has been in the area for 14 years. It has three
community centers featuring tennis, swimming pools
and picnic areas.
The Foothills has been named "Best
Master Planned Community" three times by the
Home Builders Association of Central Arizona. It is
a 4,100 acre master planned community that features
an 18 hole golf course designed by Tom Weiskopf. The
Foothills is distinguished by its scenic desert mountain
environment and abundant opportunities to enjoy the
outdoors with more than forty miles of recreational
trails winding through the hills in the shadow of
South Mountain.
Ahwatukee also features retail and light commercial
components, with Arizona Mills Mall located in nearby
Tempe. It has a well established retirement area with
recreational and community activities and five nearby
golf courses.
