McDowell Mountain Ranch
McDowell Mountain Ranch is a master planned community
nestled in the foothills of the magnificent McDowell
Mountains, offering panoramic views of the majestic
beauty of Scottsdale. It was completed in June of
2003. The community has been voted among the top 5-10
master planned communities annually since 1998. It
was voted number 2 of the “Top 10 Master Planned
Communities for 2001” in Ranking Arizona
published by Arizona Business Magazine.
It is a family oriented community with a wide range
of amenities designed for an active lifestyle. There
is a five acre park, a community center with a swimming
pool, spa, basketball, tennis and sand volleyball
courts and a very popular splash fountain. There are
miles of trails connecting neighborhoods to each other
and to the Scottsdale Public Library, Citizen Service
Center, elementary and middle schools and recreation
center.
Desert Canyon School (K-8) opened its combined campus
in August of 1998 and is one of only two sites in
the Scottsdale Unified School District offering K-8.
The Sanctuary Golf Course, a public championship
course designed by Randy Heckenkemper, opened in spring
of 2000. It is a 6,624 yard, par 71 course, with seven
of its 18 holes lying on land donated by McDowell
Mountain Ranch and Shea Homes. The 10,000 square foot
clubhouse features a full service restaurant and multi-use
pavilion for special events.
Desert Canyon Shopping Center within the community
features seven buildings containing 60,000 square
feet of retail, medical and office space.
Most of the homes here were built between 1995-2000.
The last builder model closed June, 2003 at which
time the master plan was completed. All homes are
